As a component of its current Strategic Plan, the University is mandated to operationalise interdisciplinary Strategic Research Themes (SRTs) before the end of 2012. The SRTs have been the subject of considerable discussion across the University with most stakeholders acknowledging their value, particularly the value of having interdisciplinary research clusters which are inclusive (particularly of early-career staff and postgraduate students) and focused on key challenges facing the Pacific Islands region.
The University now has seven fully-functioning SRTs led by the crème de la crème of USP academia. Any current staff or student of USP can join an SRT and submit an application for an SRT Grant.
It is envisioned that the SRTs will be catalytic in enhancing the University’s status as a centre for research excellence, producing quality research that is relevant to the needs and challenges faced by member countries.
