The RDA initiative aims to provide the University’s researchers with a mechanism to help improve the quality of research outputs and to contribute towards the strategic goal of transforming USP research outputs from ‘good’ to ‘excellent’. This objective is achieved by providing support mechanisms for the acquisition and dissemination of knowledge in the area of data analysis, interpretation and reporting.
The RDA monitors and provides assistance and expert advice on research design, data collection methods, statistical data analysis and interpretation needs of the students and staff from all disciplines across the University. The assistance is generally provided through face-to-face consultations and workshop presentations that deal with various statistical techniques and the usage of statistical packages (such as SPSS, R, etc.) to analyse research data.
RDA has been a successful initiative of the Research Office where hundreds of research students and staff have benefited with regards to their research projects since 2012. The RDA initiative comes under the tutelage and leadership of Prof. Derrick Armstrong, DVC – Research, Innovation and International, to accomplish the overarching mission of ‘excellent and high quality research outputs’.
Students from regional campuses can also seek assistance to obtain such services from this unit of the Research Office through email communications. We hope to work towards providing excellent data analysis support that will assist you in drawing up meaningful interpretations and conclusions from your research data.
