Shaiza Janif obtained her Bachelor’s degree (Language, Literature, and Geography) and Graduate Certificate in Education from The University of the South Pacific in 2011. She was also awarded the Vice-Chancellor’s Gold Medal for being the most outstanding graduate with a major in Education. During her undergraduate years, Janif was part of numerous archaeological research projects. During those years she also developed a keen interest in oral traditions and the messages they contain. This interest later resulted in her master’s thesis titled “Assessing the Value of Oral Narratives to Build Resilience to Climate Change – Case Study of Southwestern Coast of Viti Levu And The Island of Vatulele, Fiji”.

Janif has worked with the Research Office for more than a decade; having started as a research intern in 2007. For more than four years she had coordinated the Research Student portfolio where she managed graduate student funding, training, scholarships, and policies. Her current portfolio as the Research Skills Development [RSD] Coordinator places her at the forefront of the University’s’ strategic goal of implementing RSD framework across its academic programmes.

Apart from her academic and profession endeavors Janif possesses a flair for creative works. She has a long standing passion for travel photography, poetry, and stitching. She documents her travels and creations on her blog
